About the Faculty
The year 1367 is when The Hundred Years’ War has been already going on for thirty years when Boccaccio has already finished his masterpiece of Decameron 14 years when three more years and the Aztecs establish a state in America - And it is a year when the King Luis the Great establish a university in Pécs with the approval of V. Orban Pope on 1st of September.
The legal predecessors of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Pécs are partly the first Hungarian university founded by Lajos Nagy in 1367 and the Erzsébet University in Bratislava, which was transferred to Pécs in 1921. Science education started in 1948 in Pécs, at the then independent Teacher Training College. In 1982, as a Faculty of Teacher Education, the former college became a member of the Janus Pannonius University, then established, with the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Economics. From then on, science education began to rise to the university level. As a result, in 1992, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Humanities was able to form at the same time at the universities.
