Institute of Physics

Introduction

At the Institute of Physics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Pécs, we are engaged in research in laser physics, theoretical nuclear physics, plasma physics, solid state physics, quantum optics and quantum information science. In addition to fundamental research, applied research is also ongoing: the laser-induced plasma emission spectroscopy method allows for forensic applications, the examination of works of art and paintings.

The expansion of staff, the introduction of new scientific disciplines and other faculty requirements have also necessitated changes in the department's organisational structure. Today, the institute is essentially made up of three departments, which is the responsible management unit of the physics department within the faculty. The teaching and research tasks are carried out in cooperation between the departments.
